Pope Leo on Palm Sunday

Oudtshoorn, 29 March 2026 – Pope Leo has officially begun the first Holy Week of his pontificate. He presided over Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, where 120,000 olive branches, 120 palms, and traditional palmurelli from Sanremo were distributed to the thousands of pilgrims present.

The Chrism Mass in the Diocese of Oudtshoorn is celebrated on the Tuesday during Holy Week in order to afford the clergy of whom some have to travel 100’s of kilometers to attend, sufficient time to attend and return before the Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper on Holy Thursday.
